Estimation of an Incipient Fault Using an Adaptive Neurofuzzy Sliding-Mode Observer
A fault, especially an incipient fault has to be detected as early as possible to avoid serious damage occurring in the controlled system. A fuzzy relational sliding mode observer (FRSMO) is proposed to estimate the magnitude of slowly evolving faults in information-poor and non-linear systems. To reduce modelling errors, an on-line learning fault identification scheme is used to update the model and identify the fault in a periodical mode. The performance of the proposed methods is evaluated using a cooling-coil subsystem of an air-conditioning plant in a simulated environment. The simulation results of the actuator fault and flow reduction fault estimation confirm the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Design and Implementation of Optical Wireless Communications With Optically Powered Smart Dust Motes
In this paper we demonstrate that it is possible to communicate over 10s of metres with systems that can also be powered by the interrogating beam. Low communications energies of 16pJ/bit/mm2 of modulator are achieved, and it should be possible to reduce these further. The total electrical power consumption of the mote is approximately 40nW.

CMOS Even Harmonic Switching Mixer for Direct Conversion Receivers
In this paper, an even harmonic mixer and a simple switching mixer are discussed first. And a novel even harmonic switching mixer with DC offset free and low noise figure, especially for the direct conversion application, is proposed.

ICPA for Highly Integrated Concurrent Dual-Band Wireless Receivers
A single-feed ICPA realised on a cavity-down CBGA package of 15 15 1.9mm3 has been proposed for use in highly integrated concurrent dual-band wireless receivers operating at 2.4 and 5.25 GHz. The ICPA offers the possibility to combine antennas and highly integrated wireless receivers into standard surface mounted devices, and thus, enjoy economical advantages of mass production and automatic assembly.
